Google recently released a stable version of Android 16, and most smartphone manufacturers are preparing to release their updates based on it, while Xiaomi developers are actively working on HyperOS 2.3 firmware, which will be built on Android 16.
However, Xiaomi specialists have been testing HyperOS 2.3 on Android 16 for a number of devices for a couple of weeks (details). Moreover, the update seems to be focused specifically on the integration of Android 16 into the proprietary HyperOS shell.
Google’s release of the Android 16 source code, along with the stable version, provides manufacturers with complete development resources. This release allows Xiaomi engineers to start working hard on HyperOS 2.3 integration, while having access to complete system documentation and optimization tools.
Industry analysts expect that the release of HyperOS 2.3 in June is unlikely, given the current stage of development. The complex integration process between the Android 16 base system and Xiaomi’s numerous settings will require additional optimization time.
A more realistic timeline suggests that the first beta releases of HyperOS 2.3 will be released in July 2025, with stable releases in late summer. This graph follows Xiaomi’s past pattern of releasing major Android-based updates a few months after Google’s stable releases.
The priority devices for the first releases of HyperOS 2.3 are likely to be:
- Xiaomi 15 Series
- Xiaomi 14 Series
- Some models of smartphones of the Redmi Note 14 series
- Some models of Xiaomi Pad series tablets
By the way, HyperOS 2.3 builds will receive only a part of the improvements and innovations from Android 16, which, by the way, does not yet contain all the declared “chips”, and we will see full deployment only in HyperOS 3, with global firmware expected only in November.
