The upcoming version of Xiaomi‘s proprietary HyperOS 3 shell, according to insiders, may be the company’s strongest bet on overthrowing Apple’s decade-long superiority in the field of interfaces after the dramatic improvements achieved in HyperOS 2.
Having solved the stability issues of MIUI and HyperOS 1 with the release of HyperOS 2, Xiaomi developers continued to improve the user experience with the releases of HyperOS 2.1 and HyperOS 2.2, in order to make a serious competitive leap with the next-generation interface.
HyperOS 3 will be mainly based on Android 16, and some devices will receive a release based on Android 15. As such, Xiaomi aims to unify the programming interface across its diverse portfolio of devices, ensuring that everyone gets the latest interface features.
According to industry sources, Android 16 will be released in the second quarter of 2025, which perfectly matches Xiaomi’s traditional October software release schedule.
Such a schedule will give the Xiaomi development team enough time to integrate key Android 16 features into the HyperOS 3 system, as well as add their proprietary settings and optimizations.

What’s particularly intriguing about the upcoming HyperOS 3 is how Google’s intended design direction for Android 16 aligns with the visual cues that have long been associated with Apple’s iOS.
In particular, it is reported that Google will significantly redesign the interface, which will receive blurring effects throughout the user interface – a visual approach that has been a hallmark of Apple’s design language for several generations.
That is, HyperOS 3 will potentially be able to offer the following:
- Great visual depth with complex blur effects
- Intuitive overlay of interface elements
- Improved visual hierarchy, increasing the user-friendliness of the device
- Smoother, more natural and responsive animations
- Higher visual consistency throughout the system

The fact that HyperOS 3 is coming out during a period of relative interface stability in iOS is an opportunity for Xiaomi to bridge the gap, at least in perception, between Android-based systems and the Apple ecosystem.
By combining Google’s basic interface improvements with Xiaomi’s own performance optimizations and design solutions, the upcoming HyperOS 3 may well become a new benchmark for Android interfaces.
