This year, Google will roll out a new version of the Android operating system earlier than usual, and smartphone manufacturers, including Xiaomi, are actively preparing to upgrade their devices to Android 16.
In particular, Xiaomi developers are preparing major updates to HyperOS 2.3 with firmware numbers like OS2.0.3xx, which will be built specifically on Android 16. Later, in the fall, the new HyperOS 3 software platform, also based on Android 16, will be launched.
However, not all Xiaomi, Redmi and Poco devices will be updated to the latest Android 16 system, as we recently discussed, but, by and large, the owners of these devices should not be upset at all.

Android 16 will bring limited innovation
The Android 16 update provides better system performance, improved security attributes, and redesigned user interface elements, but these changes remain largely invisible to ordinary users.
Most of the improvements in Android 16 are focused on optimizing the backend, rather than exciting new features that would dramatically change the user experience.
HyperOS 2.3 vs HyperOS 2.2: minimal differences
The HyperOS 2.3 update based on Android 16 provides almost identical functionality to its predecessor in the form of HyperOS 2.2, and the basic version of HyperOS 2.0 too.
Of course, the Android 16 framework will provide Xiaomi, Redmi, and Poco devices with increased system stability, improved performance optimization, and enhanced security measures, but the core HyperOS experience remains the same for end users.

Your path to HyperOS 3 remains safe.
It is also worth noting that almost all Xiaomi, Redmi and Poco smartphones that have already received HyperOS 2 updates based on Android 15 are guaranteed to receive HyperOS 3, regardless of compatibility with Android 16.
This guarantees the owners of these devices long-term software support and access to significant feature updates of the new proprietary HyperOS 3 firmware.
