Quite often, owners of Xiaomi, Redmi and Poco confuse two values – this is the refresh rate in hertz, which their device supports, and the number of FPS that a smartphone or tablet outputs in gaming applications.
In this article, we will look at what the frame rate is and what FPS shows, how they differ and how they affect the operation of devices in certain scenarios.
Table of contents
Frame rate on Xiaomi smartphones
The refresh rate (vertical scan rate) is a value indicating how many times per second the image on the screen is updated. Each display has its own maximum frequency – 60, 90, 120 or even 144 Hz.
For example, the Poco F6 smartphone supports a maximum refresh rate of 120 Hz – that is, the image on the display can be updated up to 120 times per second.
Roughly speaking, the more hertz is set in the HyperOS settings, the clearer and noticeably smoother the image on the screen will be when, for example, scrolling pages in a web browser or scenes in mobile games.

In addition, the high frame rate installed on your Xiaomi, Redmi or Poco reduces eye fatigue during prolonged use of the device, and the HyperOS software platform is responsible for its operation and, of course, there must be high frequency support on the display side.
FPS parameter on Xiaomi smartphones
The FPS level, which is an important parameter in gaming applications on smartphones, is provided by the processor and the graphics controller – the more powerful they are, the more FPS is given.
FPS (frames per second, frames per second) shows how many frames your Xiaomi, Redmi or Poco displays each second in gaming applications. The higher the frame rate, the smoother and more responsive the game becomes.
On the other hand, with low FPS, it becomes less pleasant to play, and if the smartphone has frankly weak hardware, it is almost impossible.

That is, the higher the FPS, the smoother the gameplay will be, and if this parameter is too low, the game may seem to hang and unfinished.
What is the result?
These two parameters depend on completely different elements of the system, the screen and the processor with the graphics chip, respectively, although they are formally connected, since their synchronization is necessary for the best gaming experience.
Quite often, Xiaomi, Redmi and Poco users mix these parameters and using a budget smartphone with a weak processor on board they want to get a high FPS value, explaining that they have set 120 Hz in the parameters!
