Yesterday, a Taiwanese chipmaker MediaTek quietly introduced the new MediaTek Helio G88 processor, which is in fact an updated Helio G85 chip and is designed for affordable budget and entry-level smartphones.
The MediaTek Helio G88 platform, manufactured using a 12nm process technology, includes a pair of Arm Cortex-A75 cores with an operating frequency of up to 2.0 GHz, six Cortex-A55 cores operating at 1.8 GHz, as well as an Arm Mali-G52 MC2 graphics controller with a frequency of 1.0 GHz.
MediaTek Helio G88 supports fast 90 Hz displays to create incredibly smooth operation of mobile applications and the operating system, and the octa-core processor is based on advanced Arm Cortex-A75 cores operating at up to 2 GHz.
In addition, a MediaTek Cat-7 DL / Cat-13 UL LTE modem, Wi-Fi 5 and Bluetooth 5.0 wireless modules, as well as a GPS receiver with support for all global navigation systems, including Glonass, Beidou and Galileo, are registered on board the MediaTek Helio G88.
For the MediaTek Helio G88 SoC, support is announced for up to 8 GB of LPDDR4X RAM and flash drives of the rapidly aging eMMC 5.1 format, displays with a resolution of up to 2520 x 1080 and a frame rate of 90 Hz and a camera with a resolution of no more than 64 MP.
