The new smartphones of the flagship Xiaomi 15 family, introduced at the end of October (details), pleased users with the increased battery capacity – 5400 mAh for Xiaomi 15 and 6100 mAh for Xiaomi 15 Pro.
At the same time, the size of the devices relative to their predecessors in the face of Xiaomi 14 and Xiaomi 14 Pro (details) has practically not increased, and many are interested in how the manufacturer managed to achieve this.
The thing is that Xiaomi, and other smartphone manufacturers, have started using advanced silicon-carbon batteries in their devices, which are a type of lithium-ion batteries in which the anode is made of a silicon-containing material rather than traditional graphite.
The new type of batteries are characterized by a higher energy density, currently reaching 12.8%, which ensures an increase in cell capacity without increasing its size.

In addition, such batteries are more frost-resistant and even at -20 ° C maintain their full functionality.
Without going into complicated technical details, it should be noted that this technology has some nuances, which led the manufacturer to reduce the fast charging capacity. For example, the Xiaomi 15 Pro has 90 watts, while the Xiaomi Mi14 Pro supports all 120 watts.
