Taiwanese chipmaker MediaTek yesterday rolled out its new 4nm single-chip MediaTek Dimensity 7400 and 7400X systems, which are designed for mid-range devices.
Although, in fact, the “new products” are slightly overclocked Dimensity 7300 and 7300X chips, which simply increased the frequency of productive Arm Cortex-A78 cores by 0.1 GHz.
That is, the Dimensity 7400 and 7400x processors include eight computing cores each – four Arm Cortex-A78 with a frequency of 2.5 GHz and four Cortex-A55 operating at a frequency of 2.0 GHz.
These chipsets support LPDDR5 and LPDDR4X RAM, as well as UFS 2.2 and UFS 3.1 flash drives. In addition, the chips include MediaTek’s proprietary 5G modem, as well as Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.4 wireless modules.
The graphics here are provided by the Arm Mali-G615 MC2 controller with support for 144-hertz displays with Full HD+ resolution. The ISP Imagiq 950 works with cameras up to 200 MP, and the MediaTek NPU 655 neural unit is used to process AI algorithms.
The Dimensity 7400 and Dimensity 7400X are quite similar in basic features, but designed for different categories of devices – the Dimensity 7400X is specifically designed for folding devices, providing better power management and efficiency when working with multiple screens.
The first smartphones with MediaTek Dimensity 7400 and MediaTek Dimensity 7400X processors are expected to debut in the first quarter of 2025, but specific models or manufacturers have not yet been named.
