Taiwanese chip developer MediaTek has announced its new MediaTek Dimensity 8450 processor for sub-flagship smartphones, but as usual with this chipmaker, we won’t see anything new regarding the Dimensity 8400.
Compared to its predecessor, the new chip has changed its name and there are simply no other differences. The company tried to disguise this by rearranging all the points in the description on the official website, but all the announced specifications for the Dimensity 8450 and 8400 are completely identical.
That is, the MediaTek Dimensity includes Cortex-A725 cores (one 3.25 GHz core with 1 MB of L2 cache, three 3 GHz cores with 512 KB of L2 cache and four 2.1 GHz cores with 256 KB of L2 cache), Mali-G720 graphics with a frequency of 1.3 GHz, MediaTek NPU 880 neuroblock, LPDDR5X and UFS support 4, Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.4, all GPS navigation systems, cameras up to 320 MP, 4K@60fps video recording and screens up to 1440p with a frequency of up to 144 Hz.
We also note that the 5G modem in the new MediaTek Dimensity 8450 chip has received support for the new UltraSave 3.0+ power saving feature to reduce power consumption. Probably, this chip will become the basis of new smartphones of the upper level of the mid-price segment in the near future.
