Taiwanese chipmaker MediaTek has officially confirmed during Computex 2025 that it is working on a 2nm processor, which is expected to be released later this year.
The MediaTek Dimensity 9500 conditional chipset will be the next step in the industry’s transition to a thinner process technology – from the current 3nm to the more mature 2nm – which implies a high leap in performance and energy efficiency of the chips.
Although MediaTek has not confirmed the name of the chip, it is expected to be the Dimensity 9500, the company’s next—generation flagship processor. There are no official details about this SoC yet, and it is likely to remain a secret for some time.
It is worth noting here that Apple is usually the first to adopt new technological standards from TSMC, but its plans to switch to 2nm standards for future processors are still very vague.
In addition, there is a high probability that Apple will remain on the 3nm N3P third-generation process technology for its Apple A20 chip for the time being, due to the limited time before its launch into production and considerable costs.

In this case, Taiwan’s MediaTek will become the first company to offer advanced 2nm solutions to smartphone manufacturers. However, American Qualcomm is also awake and may well do the same with its Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 SoC.
Historically, MediaTek chips have been seen as a cost-effective alternative to Qualcomm’s flagship offerings. However, this may change with the Dimensity 9500.
It is already known that the N2 plates from TSMC will differ in their high cost. According to rumors, the price increase will be at least 10%, which will significantly increase the cost of smartphones, potentially making the Dimensity 9500 one of MediaTek’s most premium and expensive offerings.
