A major update /e/OS 3.0 has been introduced, aimed at users of Android devices who do not need Google services and who want to get rid of them.
Update /e/OS 3.0 is marked by many improvements, new privacy features, as well as expanded device support, including a large number of Xiaomi, Redmi, and Poco models (the entire list).
The /e/OS firmware is based on LineageOS, but they do not contain any Google components, including DNS, NTP, and location services. They have been replaced by alternative open source solutions.
For example, DNS queries are transmitted through provider servers, and a pool of independent NTP servers is used to determine the exact time.
Instead of the Google API, a package of free microG analogues is used, which provides compatibility with Android applications.
In addition, /e/OS 3.0 has its own application store, a secure web browser, a cloud service based on Nextcloud, a proprietary launcher and a set of pre-installed programs.
What’s new in version 3.0 is the lost device search function, the Murena Voice voice assistant, and time-limited parental control and access to installed software.
