Today, many smartphone manufacturers outsource the design of their devices to other companies, the so-called outsourcing, and at the same time, the share of devices created “on the side” is growing exponentially, and Xiaomi is not lagging behind in this regard.
For example, yesterday, the Counterpoint Research analytical center shared data for the first half of 2024, which reveal the percentages of mobile devices that leading brands “ordered on the side” for outsourcing projects, and Xiaomi turned out to be almost the leader in this not very popular “race”.

To be more precise, 9 out of 10 Motorola brand smartphones in this period were developed using outsourcing projects, and a slightly smaller number of Xiaomi devices, namely 78%, accounted for outsourcing. Vivo has 52%, Huawei has 44%, Honor has 40%, and Oppo has 39%, while Apple creates its own iPhones.
It’s hard to say whether this is good or bad, but we can assume that if Xiaomi smartphones were created directly in the bowels of the company, it would be better in terms of software optimization, and on the other hand, it frees the brand’s engineers from technical issues, allowing them to devote more time to this software itself.
