As we know, a new HyperOS 2.0 software platform is on the way, which for compatible Xiaomi, Redmi and Poco devices will be built on the latest Android 15 operating system, for which more and more information is emerging.
Recall that in the current Android 14, Google developers introduced support for branded Ultra HDR images, but few smartphone manufacturers reacted appropriately to this innovation. Apparently, in this regard, Google decided to “force” all companies to use the new standard.
Ultra HDR, also known as JPEG_R, is based on JPEG and includes HDR metadata, so that devices with HDR displays are able to display such photos in the highest possible quality and, of course, with an extended dynamic range. At the same time, in the case of devices without HDR displays, the traditional image in the SDR format should be displayed.
As the Android Authority has learned, with the release of the new version of Google’s Android, major changes will be made to the Android Compatibility Regulation (the so-called CDD), which is a list of requirements for devices to be considered compatible with Android and access Google Mobile Services (GMS).
In particular, the new version of the document adds a requirement for Ultra HDR support, in case developers want their devices to meet performance class 15.
Thus, all Android devices that claim a performance class of 15 will need to be able to take pictures in Ultra HDR format through the standard camera app and display them without problems.
