A couple of days ago, at the MWC 2025 exhibition in Barcelona, Spain, the American chipmaker Qualcomm announced the flagship eighth-generation wireless modem Qualcomm X85 and the more affordable Qualcomm X82.
Qualcomm X85 offers support for a wide range of mobile networks, high data transfer speeds, and increased energy efficiency for mobile devices.
To be more precise, the maximum data transfer rate on the incoming channel when connected to 5G is 12.5 Gbit/s, on the outgoing channel — up to 3.7 Gbit/s, which ensures stable communication for streaming broadcasts, reliable connectivity in congested locations, increased autonomy of mobile devices, as well as increased accuracy in determining location.
3GPP Release 18 standards and all 5G communication bands operating in the world are supported — from 0.6 to 41 GHz. The modem has a built-in AI processor with hardware tensor acceleration, which optimizes operation in 5G and 5G Advanced networks.
In turn, Qualcomm X82 is designed for mass production with support for multi-gigabit speeds.
Qualcomm is already supplying its partners with Qualcomm X85 and Qualcomm X82 engineering samples — devices with them are expected in the second half of the year.
