Yesterday, many online sources enthusiastically began to talk about the fact that the American chipmaker Qualcomm has released a new modification of its flagship Snapdragon 8 Elite processor, but after carefully looking at its specifications, you can see that there is little reason for joy.
To be more precise, the new version of the chip, which received the SM number.-8750-3- AB, like the original with the SM8750-AB internal label, the same two Prime super cores remain with a maximum operating frequency of up to 4.32 GHz, but there are no high-performance cores operating at 3.53 GHz. 6, and 5 pieces.
At the same time, Qualcomm’s “new” seven-core processor bears the same commercial name Snapdragon 8 Elite and will presumably be used by smartphone manufacturers who want to save some money.
We assume that these are rejected chips — that is, they are all made the same way, but in those instances that have problems with one performance core, it is simply disabled, and in the end we get the same Snapdragon 8 Elite, but 7-core.
It will be interesting to see if there are fans of devices running on this version of the Snapdragon 8 Elite – many people simply won’t notice the difference, but more advanced users may opt out of buying devices with a stripped-down version. Although, the price of the smartphone itself will play a significant role here.
By the way, Huawei, Intel and AMD have been engaged in this practice and continue to do so, releasing processors rejected at the production stage with a reduced number of cores, but at least they call them differently, whereas in the case of Qualcomm, the name of the chipset remains the same.
