Interesting information was shared today by a source close to the Redmi developers, who spoke about the timing of software support for the global Redmi Note 14 4G and Redmi Note 14 5G models. Moreover, the situation in this regard is very unclear.
In particular, it says that the Redmi Note 14 4G will receive six years of security updates, as well as four major Android updates. And since the device was launched on Android 14, it will end its life on Android 18, most likely in 2027.
But the Redmi Note 14 5G wasn’t so lucky, for reasons we don’t fully understand. This model will receive only two major Android updates, and it will also receive security patches for four years.
Since it was released with Android 14 on board, its support will cease on Android 16 OS, which is expected to be released this summer (but, of course, it will take several months before it is officially updated to Android 16).
All this information comes directly from our contacts at Redmi, so it is as official as possible. While we appreciate the update window for the Redmi Note 14 4G, which was clearly influenced by Samsung’s actions (now offering six years even for budget smartphones), we would like to see the same promise applied to the Redmi Note 14 5G.
