Samsung quietly introduced the new Samsung ISOCELL GN8, ISOCELL GN9 and ISOCELL KD1 image sensors, which we will surely see in Xiaomi, Redmi and Poco smartphones in the future.
Table of contents
Samsung ISOCELL GN8
The Samsung ISOCELL GN8 is a fairly small 1/1.95″ sensor with a resolution of 50 megapixels and a pixel size of 0.8 microns each, capable of capturing 8K video at 30 fps and 4K at 120 fps, as well as taking pictures in RAW10 and RAW12 formats.
Samsung ISOCELL GN9
The Samsung ISOCELL GN9 is very similar in its 1/1.57″ and 50 MP configuration with 1 micron pixels to the very common ISOCELL GN3, ISOCELL GN5, Sony IMX766 and IMX890 with minimal changes such as abandoning support for 8K video recording. Of course, it’s very strange, but okay.
Samsung ISOCELL KD1
Samsung ISOCELL KD1 is a small 1/3.44″ solution, clearly aimed at front-facing cameras. This is indicated by a resolution of at least 32 Mp. It also claims to support autofocus and the ability to record 4K video at 60 fps.
It is unknown when the first smartphones with cameras based on Samsung ISOCELL GN8, ISOCELL GN9 and ISOCELL KD1 sensors will be released, but manufacturers are unlikely to delay this.
