The names of Qualcomm processors designed for smartphones are quite difficult for an ordinary user to understand — chips with very similar names may turn out to be very different in their characteristics.

For example, you can name the Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 andSnapdragon 7s Gen 3, which differ only by one letter in the name, but they differ quite a lot in specifications.

In this article, we will look at them in more detail, shortening the names to SD 7+ Gen 3 and SD 7 Gen 3 for ease of publication.

For comparison and tests, we selected Vivo T3 Pro smartphones powered by Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 and Realme 14 Pro+ smartphones powered by Snapdragon 7s Gen 3.

SD 7 Gen 3 vs SD 7s Gen 3: AnTuTu 10

AnTuTu is a very popular test package that allows you to evaluate device performance parameters, including the performance of processor cores, graphics block, and memory. The overall result of AnTuTu shows the overall performance of the device.

Our test devices based on Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3 and Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 in AnTuTu 10 showed the following:

As you can see, in the AnTuTu version 10 benchmark, the Vivo T3 Pro smartphone based on Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 scored 811,593 points, while the Realme 14 Pro+ based on Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 was slightly ahead with 823,476 points.

An analysis of the AnTuTu results shows that the Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 has a faster processor. This was obvious, as the chip has more recent processor cores than the Snapdragon 7 Gen 3, but the higher GPU performance of the 7 Gen 3 was not obvious.

Moreover, the Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 is paired with a faster Adreno 810 GPU, whereas the Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 has an older Adreno 720.

The Adreno 810 is generally faster than the Adreno 720, but other factors such as the cooling system, software optimization, and memory speed also play an important role. These factors on the Vivo T3 Pro could have led to a slightly lower GPU score than the Realme 14 Pro+, despite having a better GPU.

SD 7 Gen 3 vs SD 7s Gen 3: Geekbench 6

Geekbench is widely used to measure the performance of device CPUs. The tool provides single-core and multi-core results. The first one reflects the power of the device when using one computing core, and the second one reflects the performance when all cores are running.

In Geekbench v6, the Snapdragon 7 Gen 3-powered Vivo T3 Pro scored 1,145 points in the single-core and 3,123 points in the multi-core test. On the other hand, the Realme 14 Pro+ based on the 7s Gen 3 scored 1,193 and 3,229 points in single-core and multi-core tests, respectively. That is, the results don’t differ much.

Conclusion

Although both chipsets have eight cores, they have different sets of processor cores. The Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 has four Cortex-A715 performance cores and four Cortex-A510 energy efficiency cores, while the Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 has received four Cortex-A720 performance cores and four Cortex-A520 energy efficiency cores.

Compared to the Cortex-A715, the Cortex-A720 cores provide up to 20% better energy efficiency and up to 15% improved peak performance. The Cortex-A520 also provides up to 22% reduction in power consumption and up to 8% better performance compared to the Cortex-A510.

The Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 is also more powerful in terms of the graphics processor powered by the Adreno 810, which is slightly more powerful than the Adreno 720 in the Snapdragon 7 Gen 3.

This means that a device using the 7s Gen 3 will have better gaming performance, given that other aspects such as the cooling system and software optimization will remain unchanged.
