The American company Qualcomm quietly announced a new 4nm single-chip Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 (SM7750-AB) system designed for use in affordable mid-range smartphones, which should compete with the solutions of the Dimensity 7xxx series from Taiwanese MediaTek.
The developers promise performance improvements on all fronts – this is +27% to processor core power, +30% to graphics performance, and an impressive +65% to AI-related computing, which makes it possible to run the Stable Diffusion 1.5 image generation model locally.
The Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 SoC includes one high-performance Arm Cortex-A720 core with a frequency of 2.8 GHz, four high-performance Cortex-A720 with a frequency of 2.4 GHz, three energy-efficient Cortex-A520 with a frequency of 1.8 GHz, as well as an Adreno graphics processor with support for OpenGL ES 3.2, OpenCL 2.0, Vulkan 1.3 and support for 10-bit-based HDR gaming.
The Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 chipset also received a triple 12-bit ISP with the ability to take 200-megapixel photos and record 4K HDR video at 60 fps. For the first time in the 7 series, AI-based autofocus, auto-exposure, and white balance have been added, as well as hardware stabilization.
The Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 is equipped with a built-in Snapdragon X75 5G modem with a peak data transfer rate of up to 4.2 Gbps, limited to a radio frequency spectrum below 6 GHz (without mmWave support). The chip also supports Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6.0 wireless standards.
