American chipmaker Qualcomm has unveiled the new Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 processor, designed for affordable smartphones, without much fuss, simply by adding a page with its specifications to its official website.
The key differences from last year’s Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 chipset were the transition from Samsung’s 4nm process technology to 4nm from Taiwan’s TSMC, as well as a change in architecture to the format 1+3+4 – one powerful Arm Cortex-A720 core with a frequency of 2.5 GHz, three high-performance Cortex-A720 with a frequency of 2.4 GHz and a quartet energy-efficient Cortex-A520 cores operating at a frequency of up to 1.8 GHz.
In addition, Qualcomm developers have used the new Adreno 810 graphics controller in the new Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 chip, instead of the Adreno 710 used in the previous Snapdragon 7s Gen 2.
According to Qualcomm, the performance of the Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 relative to its predecessor increased by 20% in terms of computing cores and 40% in terms of graphics.
Moreover, a 30% acceleration of all calculations related to artificial intelligence algorithms is announced, as well as an increase in the overall energy efficiency of the chip by 12%.
Technically, the new chipset, like its predecessor, supports cameras up to 200 MP, video recording up to 4K@60fps and wireless networks of Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.4 standards.
The official press release claims that the Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 will be used in smartphones from Realme, Samsung, Sharp and Xiaomi, but the first device to try on the new Qualcomm solution will be the Redmi Note 14 Pro, which is expected to be announced in September or October.
