Recently, a fairly well-known informant Erencan Yılmaz, studying the source code of the new Xiaomi HyperOS 2 system, found in it a mention of the Qualcomm processor with the internal label SM8850, indicating the future top-end Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 chip.
It turns out that Qualcomm engineers are already actively working on the second generation of Snapdragon 8 Elite, even before the full launch of smartphones on the first-generation Snapdragon 8 Elite chip. Apparently, the Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 will be released using the updated 3nm N3P process technology at TSMC facilities.

Apparently, the upcoming top-end Xiaomi 16 and Xiaomi 16 Pro smartphones should be among the first devices equipped with the latest Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 SoC, but since the premiere of the Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 is still too far away, there are simply no specific details about this chipset.
By the way, earlier leaks indicated a noticeable increase in the performance of the Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 chipset compared to its predecessor, the Snapdragon 8 Elite – the gap reached 25% in the popular Geekbench test package, although it is unclear where they got a working sample of a smartphone running on the Snapdragon 8 Elite 2.
