Sony has quietly launched the new Sony LYT-818 (Sony IMX06C) image sensor, which is sure to fit into the cameras of many smartphone models.
Sony LYT-818 is a large 1/1.28″ sensor with a resolution of 50 Megapixels, which will offer a preview of the HDR image directly on the smartphone screen even before pressing the shutter or turning on video recording.

Previously, image sensors did not have this capability, as it led to increased power consumption and heating. However, Sony engineers were able to optimize the logic circuits and some components, which made it possible to preview the HDR image.
Another feature of the Sony LYT-818 is its proprietary Ultra-High Conversion Gain (UHCG) technology, which converts charge into voltage with high efficiency, which ultimately reduces the graininess of the image in low-light conditions.
At the same time, the random noise level in the Sony LYT-818 is at around 0.95e-, which is the best indicator among all existing CMOS sensors. It also claims support for recording video in 4K@120fps format.
According to a well-known Digital Chat Station insider, the first smartphones with cameras based on the Sony LYT-818 sensor will be the Vivo X200 Pro and Vivo Pro mini, but devices from other manufacturers are expected later.
