It has become known that Taiwanese contract chip manufacturer TSMC is experiencing serious difficulties in mastering the advanced 2nm process.
It is reported that the yield of usable 2-nm plates is 60%, which means that 40% of the plates are unusable. At a cost of about $30,000 per plate, TSMC actually loses $120,000,000 per month due to the imperfection of new technological standards.
Earlier, American Apple planned to release the iPhone 17 Pro with a 2nm chipset on board in 2025, but, apparently, it will have to postpone its plans for 12 months.

In addition, some sources are already saying that Apple will continue to use the 3nm process technology for another year, which will allow TSMC to increase the yield of usable wafers and lower prices for chip production.
By the way, Samsung is also facing difficulties – the South Korean company needs to increase both the yield and the performance of its 3nm chips, which are already lagging behind its main Taiwanese competitor.
