Taiwanese contract chip manufacturer TSMC, which is a global industry leader, recently officially announced its advanced 1.4nm A14 process technology, which is based on second-generation Gate-All-Around (GAA) transistors.

According to the developer, relative to the already existing 2nm N2 standards, the future A14 will show a 15% improved performance without increasing power consumption or a 30% reduction in energy consumption without reducing computing power.

TSMC representatives also noted that, unlike previous technologies, the new A14 was created from scratch and the existing chip designs would not work for it. Moreover, it is radically different from the technological standards of N2P and the future A16.

For example, the basic version of the A14 process technology does not have reverse power supply (BSPDN) support, which implies a reduction in the cost of chips, but at the same time limits the possibilities for solving problems in which there is a high wiring density.

Serial production of chips using the latest 1.4nm A14 process technology is expected to start in 2028, while a more advanced A14P with a BSPDN power supply system is expected in 2029. Moreover, the N2P and A16 technology processes should be launched next year.
