The owners of Xiaomi, Redmi and Poco are constantly asking questions about what MIUI Daemon is, what this service is responsible for and whether it can be disabled. By the way, in Xiaomi HyperOS, the MIUI Daemon system application was renamed System Daemon.

The MIUI Daemon service, also known as System Daemon (com.miui.daemon), is included in all global Xiaomi HyperOS builds and is designed to track system information “to improve the user experience in future updates.” However, this raises questions about privacy and data security.

What is the MIUI Daemon (System Daemon) service?

MIUI Daemon is a system application pre—installed on all Xiaomi devices running Xiaomi HyperOS global firmware.

It collects system usage statistics to improve Xiaomi’s proprietary software platform. In other words, this information will be useful for the company to improve the functionality of the device through future HyperOS updates.

It’s pretty easy to find MIUI Daemon (System Daemon) on your Xiaomi, Redmi or Poco – go to SettingsApplicationsAll applications and here this service is perfectly visible.

What information does MIUI Daemon (System Daemon) collect?

Previously, it was assumed that Xiaomi, Redmi and Poco smartphones and tablets have software on board that collects user data that can eventually be sent to servers located in China.

And the MIUI Daemon app does collect data at the system level, including:

  • screen on time;
  • statistics on memory and storage consumption;
  • processor performance and battery capacity;
  • status of Bluetooth and Wi-Fi wireless modules;
  • the IMEI number.

However, almost all the data that MIUI Daemon transmits to Xiaomi servers is related to system performance, and not to personal or confidential user data. The main idea behind this is to further improve the performance of the device.

Is it possible to remove MIUI Daemon (System Daemon)?

Theoretically, MIUI Daemon can be deleted, but since this service is deeply integrated into the system structure, the entire functionality of the device as a whole may well be disrupted, for example, making it unable to boot.

However, MIUI Daemon can be turned off quite easily, and we talked in detail about how to do this just yesterday in this article.

What is the result?

Although MIUI Daemon collects system data, it is not confidential information. Ultimately, whether or not to trust Xiaomi with your data is a personal decision of each Xiaomi, Redmi or Poco owner, because MIUI Daemon is more focused on further system optimization rather than invasive data collection.

P.S. Other useful instructions on how to set up the HyperOS system and use its features on Xiaomi, Redmi and Poco devices can be found on our website in this section.
