The fake HyperOS firmware is an unofficial version of the software installed on a Xiaomi or Redmi smartphone, which is also called a “flip—flop”. That is, it is a modified or simply pirated firmware that was not received directly from Xiaomi.
Such fake HyperOS global firmware (Fake HyperOS ROM) can seriously threaten the security, performance and access to updates of Xiaomi or Redmi smartphones, and for this reason are unsafe to use.
As a rule, a Xiaomi or Redmi smartphone with such a “global” firmware on board can be bumped into when buying it on any Aliexpress before their official announcement outside the Middle Kingdom. By the way, there is no such problem with Poco brand devices, since they are not manufactured in China.
A striking example is the devices of the Redmi Note family, the international versions of which come out much later than the Chinese models and are more expensive.
What is the fake HyperOS firmware for Xiaomi?
If you don’t go into technical details, the craftsmen take the Chinese model of the conditional Redmi Note 13 and flash it to a modified firmware with the necessary languages, including Russian, and modestly call it Global ROM.
As a result, the buyer has a kind of global Redmi Note 13 with at least global firmware, but with an unclear HyperOS assembly number, which categorically does not want to be updated. Well, the buyer also gets related problems in the form of some kind of bonuses.:
- Lack of updates: Smartphones with fake HyperOS firmware do not receive software updates, as well as Android security fixes and minor bugs included in the official update.
- Security Threats: Pirated HyperOS builds may contain malware such as Remote Access Trojans (RAT), which put your information and the overall security of your device at risk.
- Warranty and Support issue: Installing unofficial software may result in the termination of the warranty and the exclusion of access to Xiaomi maintenance. In Russia, it is almost 100% likely that you will be denied warranty service for such devices.
“Flip-flops” means that you have a Chinese smartphone with homemade firmware: there are hieroglyphs on the box, there is supposedly global firmware, but in fact it is a pirate, not a global one. This smartphone was intended for the Chinese market, but the cunning Chinese sell them with pirated homemade firmware to citizens of other countries.
In no case should you install Global firmware on such a smartphone, otherwise you will get a “brick”. You can only install the official Chinese firmware (there is an English language), unlock the bootloader, and then finally install the global firmware.
Once again, with such a smartphone, you cannot immediately upgrade to the global version! Get a so-called “brick”. Flash only on the Chinese official version. Then unlock the bootloader and install whatever you want.
How do I return the original HyperOS firmware to Xiaomi?
Returning the original HyperOS firmware to a Xiaomi or Redmi smartphone instead of a fake build is quite a difficult task, accessible only to very experienced users who know what to do. Moreover, with illiterate actions, you can easily get a “brick”.
This is the left flip-flop firmware (the letters XN instead of XM are at the end of the firmware number, although it happens that XM is spelled out), the bootloader cannot be unlocked on it and it will not be updated either. And 99% of the phone is for the Chinese market.
To switch to the official HyperOS firmware, you need to disassemble the phone, close the testpoint and flash the Chinese “official” in edl mode, unlock the bootloader in it and then flash the “global” without blocking the bootloader.
However, EDL mode requires a service account, which is available only from official services. So you can’t do without a visit to the service.
You can also try to find a Xiaomi service center that has the appropriate authority (and a service account), where, if possible, they will help you. However, this path can be quite costly and, consequently, completely impractical.
