Many owners of Xiaomi, Redmi and Poco devices are looking forward to the release of stable global HyperOS 2 updates, the first of which will be released at the end of December (more details), and are also interested in what is recommended to do on the smartphone before receiving the latest HyperOS 2 firmware.

In fact, you don’t need to do anything specifically on Xiaomi, Redmi, or Poco devices to get HyperOS 2, since this is an automatic process.

To be more precise, with the release of the update for your model, it will arrive “by air”, after which you will need to confirm its installation, however, we will provide some recommendations for Xiaomi, Redmi and Poco devices.

Activate the automatic download of updates

In order to prevent the HyperOS 2 firmware from arriving and then disappearing, turn on the automatic download of updates. Preferably over both Wi-Fi and mobile communications, if, of course, the tariff plan allows.

To do this, go to SettingsAbout the phone, tap on the HyperOS logo, then click on the three vertical dots in the upper-right corner and click Settings in the menu that appears, where we activate all the necessary switches.

Check the amount of free memory

Thanks to the first HyperOS 2 updates that are rolling out in China, we already know how much free space we will need on our Xiaomi. Apparently, to install the HyperOS 2 firmware, we will need about 5-7 GB of free space, depending on the device model for which it is intended.

To find out how much free flash memory is on your Xiaomi, Redmi or Poco, go to SettingsAbout Phone Storage, which will show how much free space is available on this device.

Make a backup copy

Also, before such a major update as HyperOS 2, especially if it is built on the new Android 15 operating system, it would be nice to make a backup copy of your device, well, you never know, anything happens.

We recently described in detail how to make a full backup on a Xiaomi, Redmi or Poco phone in this manual.

P.S. We collect all the most interesting information about the new version of the HyperOS 2 software platform here, and all the most interesting news about HyperOS can be found in this section.
