New features may appear on your Xiaomi, Redmi and Poco not only after receiving the next HyperOS firmware, but also after updating the system applications – Camera, Gallery, Music and others.
To get updates to these very applications, you need to go to Settings – Component Updates, where you will see a list of applications for which there are updates or it will be indicated that the latest versions of system applications are installed.
Updating the system via Google Play
As a rule, Xiaomi developers release global updates every 90 days, although this period may last for a longer period, but system updates through Google Play that fix bugs in previous versions are released monthly on average.
In order to check for updates via Google Play on your Xiaomi, Redmi or Poco, you need to go to Settings – System Status – System Update via Google Play.
Here, after checking, you will be prompted to install a fresh “update” or the Update is not required notification will be displayed.
Security system update
Equally important on Xiaomi, Redmi and Poco devices are the latest security updates, which are Android security patches that fix identified vulnerabilities and previously unnoticed threats.
For example, in this article you can see what the April 2025 security patch includes.
To check for a security update, go to Settings – Fingerprints, Face data, and Device Protection – Privacy – Security Update. Here you will also be either prompted to install a fresh patch, if available, or informed that there are no updates at the moment.
Updating Bluetooth drivers
This inconspicuous but very useful HyperOS feature can significantly improve the quality of Bluetooth connectivity on your Xiaomi, Redmi or Poco, expand compatibility with new devices and solve those connection problems that you had previously.
To update the Bluetooth software on your Xiaomi, Redmi, or Poco, you need to do the following:
Go to Settings — Bluetooth, and if in front of the itemThe Bluetooth version has an inscriptionUpdate, click on it, and then click on the big button.Refresh at the bottom of the screen. After the update, the system will suggest restarting the Bluetooth module, which you need to agree to.
Battery Firmware Update
Not so long ago, Xiaomi developers began to introduce the possibility of updating the battery firmware in the latest HyperOS 2 firmware in order to optimize the device’s energy consumption and increase battery life.
To update the battery software, go to Settings – Battery – Additional Functions – Software Update. If there is an update, you will be prompted to receive it, and if there is not one for your device at the moment, a corresponding notification will be issued.
It is worth noting here that today the Software Update item in the battery settings is not present on all Xiaomi, Redmi and Poco devices, but it is expected that in the foreseeable future it will appear on every device as part of the Security application update.
