Recently, Xiaomi introduced its top-end Xiaomi Pad 7 and Xiaomi Pad 7 Pro tablets (details), which predictably made it to the AER list, which you can read more about here, but there is an interesting nuance here.
Devices participating in the AER program should have long enough software support periods and be updated promptly, but with this, the older Xiaomi Pad 7 Pro model initially went wrong.
To be more precise, new products are promised the following:
- Xiaomi Pad 7 – 4 Android updates (to Android 19) and 6 years of release of security patches (until March 2031)
- Xiaomi Pad 7 Pro – 2 Android updates (to Android 17) and 3 years of release of security patches (until March 2028)
Why the Pro version will be supported two times less than the basic one, and what the Xiaomi developers thought is absolutely unclear – apparently, they are affected by the 15-hour working day.
