Owners of global smartphone models Xiaomi, Redmi and Poco began to frequently ask why the AI Portrait function was missing in the Gallery on their devices with HyperOS 2 firmware.
Indeed, the AI portrait functionality is gradually disappearing from the options of the Gallery stock application in HyperOS 2, but, in fact, there is nothing strange about this.
To be more precise, back in the first half of March, Xiaomi developers officially announced that the AI Portrait feature would be removed, as we discussed in detail in this article.
Although Xiaomi did not specify the reason for this move, it is likely related to privacy regulations, localization strategies, and cloud processing restrictions outside of China.
In particular, AI-based portrait generation typically requires complex cloud computing, which may entail additional compliance requirements in different countries.
