As with previous generations, Xiaomi is launching an additional accessory package for its new Xiaomi 15 Ultra photo flagship (review) — this time it’s not just a Photography Kit, but a Photography Kit Legend Edition. Basically, it’s the same as before, only this time there are some additions.
The kit consists of two main parts — an almost standard-looking case that can be used individually, and a separate battery handle that attaches to the case and adds both functionality and the battery itself.
Speaking of design, the fiery red color used for the periphery of the case, the battery pack, and the ring around the lens may be a bit overkill – a more restrained color combination could have broader appeal.
The battery pack now contains a 2,000 mAh battery, which is higher than the 1,500 mAh capacity of last year’s model. There is a two-stage shutter release button, a zoom rocker around it, a video recording button (which can still be adjusted) and a dial (default exposure correction).
There are two new additions here that balance on the edge between hipsterism and usability. One of them is the internal thread on the shutter release button, which allows it to accept one of the two screw—in caps of the soft shutter release button (red and black with a red ring).
As it turned out, the thread is standard — we tried one of the Xiaomi caps on the Fujifilm X100IV, which turned out to be at hand, and it fit just fine.
Another new addition is the thumb rest. It attaches to the screw on the front of the battery grip and extends to the back of the phone/camera kit assembly, providing a comfortable resting area for the thumb of the right hand.
The red ring around the 15 Ultra cameras is removable, and the kit includes another one of the same black color, as well as a third one with a thread for installing standard filters with a diameter of 67 mm.
The kit also includes a cord that can be attached to the battery compartment.
Just like last year, the Photography Kit is a really nice addition to the Xiaomi Ultra series camera phone, and it can be very useful if you want to get more camera experience with your smartphone.
