Back in May of this year, the first data appeared that Chinese smartphone manufacturers, including Xiaomi, would switch the cameras of their flagship devices to SmartSens image sensors.
Later, hints of such a decision appeared in various semi-official messages, and now the trustworthy network informant Digital Chat Station has hinted at it.
According to the source, the cameras of the future Xiaomi 16 Pro and Xiaomi 16 Pro Max flagships will be built on “the latest Chinese-made sensor with ultra-high dynamic range.”
He also clarified that we are talking about a 50-megapixel 1/1.28″ sensor with 1.22-micron pixels, support for the QPD function, the third generation of LOFIC technology, as well as advanced low-light shooting capabilities.

Presumably, we are talking about the new SmartSens SC590XS or SmartSens SC585XS image sensors, but we will find out about this for sure closer to the presentation of the Xiaomi 16 family flagships.
By the way, the basic Xiaomi 16 is also promised a new main camera on a 1/1.3″ sensor, however, apparently, this will be a more affordable solution – for example, the OmniVision OV50Q.
