Xiaomi has officially announced that the first-generation Xiaomi AI Speaker smart speaker, released in 2017, will no longer receive functional updates.
The legendary smart speaker, the original one powered by the Xiaomi Xiao Ai virtual assistant, has been working with users for almost eight years. From now on, she will only receive security updates.
The announcement was made by the confirmed leader of HyperOS Home/ Speaker Circle on the Weibo social network and also applies to a number of other Xiaomi and Redmi smart speakers released a little later.
The Xiaomi and Redmi speaker models listed below will also no longer receive functional updates, but will switch only to security support.:
- Xiaomi AI Speaker (2017)
- Xiao Ai Speaker Mini (2018)
- Xiaomi Xiao Ai Speaker Play (2019)
- Redmi Xiao Ai Speaker Play (2019)
- Xiao Ai Speaker Universal Remote Control Edition (2019)
- Xiao Ai Speaker HD (2019)
If you’re still using these devices, don’t worry — they won’t turn off. Xiaomi has confirmed that they will continue to receive the necessary security updates, but no new features will be added. Users will still be able to control them using HyperConnect and easily integrate them with smart home devices.
