Xiaomi has carried out a large-scale restructuring of its ecosystem of HyperOS interface themes aimed at users of Chinese Xiaomi and Redmi models.
According to the publication of the Xiaomi Theme channel in the official Xiaomi Community on April 17, the international theme store will no longer work on smartphones with Chinese HyperOS builds on board.
When trying to access the global theme store, users of Chinese versions of Xiaomi and Redmi devices receive a notification of “network unavailability”, after which they are redirected to a specialized Chinese theme store.
Users trying to access the international theme store using Chinese ROMs now regularly encounter network connection errors. These are not technical failures, but a deliberate system limitation added by Xiaomi.
The separation of the Chinese and global HyperOS theme stores speaks to Xiaomi’s commitment to optimizing the user experience depending on the region. The change is effective for all Xiaomi and Redmi smartphones using Chinese firmware versions.
