Xiaomi‘s proprietary HyperOS system has long received a number of Material You elements, including dynamic themes and a customizable user interface, and now, apparently, the company’s developers have decided to integrate themed icons into it.
The Themed Icons feature was originally part of Material You when it was launched in Android 12, but at that time this functionality was very primitive, and the list of supported application icons was severely limited.
But then Android 13 came along with a proper API for themed icons, which finally allowed developers to make their app icons compatible with system-wide themes.
The fact is that themed icons have been in beta for more than two years, which raised many doubts about the stability and widespread use of this feature, but now this is no longer the case, since Android has finally removed the Beta label, so this feature is ready for widespread use.
The future looks bright for Xiaomi users as to how HyperOS will continue to evolve, matching Android and taking the best of Google’s features with Xiaomi’s optimization.
Moreover, insiders say that themed application icons will soon be integrated into the HyperOS software platform – most likely, developers will implement this feature in the upcoming HyperOS 3 based on Android 16, which will be released next year.
