Today, several online sources shared information that Xiaomi once again wants to prohibit unlocking the bootloader on Xiaomi, Redmi and Poco devices. Yes, again. And we are talking about global models.
To be more precise, Xiaomi is planning to close its bootloader unlock program outside of mainland China by 2025, which has caused serious outrage in the Xiaomi community.
That is, we are talking about another attempt to “tighten the screws” against owners of global versions of Xiaomi, Redmi and Poco devices who want to unlock the bootloader in order to modify the system to their needs or install third-party firmware.
By the way, back in September of this year, information appeared that with the release of HyperOS 2.0 firmware, it would be impossible to unlock the bootloader, as we wrote in this article.
Then it was said that the last date when owners of Xiaomi, Redmi and Poco devices will be able to unlock the bootloader falls on September 9, 2024 at 23:59, but this did not happen.
In any case, this is a rather controversial step by Xiaomi, which will definitively and irrevocably close any flexibility regarding the use of the manufacturer’s devices or obtaining root rights on them.
