A new NFC Release 15 specification has been announced, suggesting improved characteristics of NFC modules with a fourfold increase in connection range, which will soon appear in smartphones from Xiaomi, Redmi, Poco and other manufacturers.
According to the published documentation, the working distance for NFC technology will increase from 5 mm to 20 mm, and users, for example, smart watches, will no longer need to turn their wrist to pay for an NFC purchase.

Another key innovation of NFC Release 15 will be support for the NFC Digital Product Passport (NDPP) standard, which allows you to use your smartphone as a payment terminal.
The NFC Forum Association, which is supported by technology giants such as Apple, Google, Sony, and Xiaomi, has committed to implementing NFC Release 15 as soon as possible, and the NFC Release 15 specifications will be available to all members of the NFC Forum community in the fall of 2025.
Apparently, the new NFC Release 15 will appear in Xiaomi, Redmi and Poco smartphones released next year – after Qualcomm, MediaTek and other chipmakers begin using it in their single-chip systems and individual solutions.
