The latest Xring O1 single-chip system, developed by Xiaomi engineers, has attracted a lot of attention from industry analysts since its launch last week.
Moreover, the latest explanations from the management of Arm Technology confirm that this 3nm processor actually means Xiaomi’s complete independence from the solutions of the CSS for Client platform developed in Arm.
“The system design of multi-core CPU/GPU and memory access is fully and independently developed by Xiaomi. The internal architecture of the chip was also created from scratch by Xiaomi and is not based on the Arm CSS software core or hardware solutions.”
As specified, Xiaomi specialists have implemented many proprietary solutions in Xring O1, for example, peripheral power technology, standard cells (StdCell) and high-speed registers, an independent hardware microcontroller for CPU scheduling calculations and frequency modulation solutions.
This achievement puts Xiaomi in the rare company of organizations capable of developing fully autonomous mobile processors. The success of the XRING O1 could influence the broader smartphone industry’s strategy to develop semiconductors and diversify its supply chain.
